How to make a short film

My takeaway from this video was ultimately the entire rundown and process to actually making a short film that will engage the audience. Firstly, the man in the video explains to focus on writing within the resource limits. It is best to create stories that utilize your available cast and setting you are in. He also mentions to let theme to guide your story, allowing characters action lead the direction of the story. Also determine and focus on how your character will act in the short film itself. This is one of the most important things when it comes to telling a story to your audience. Use a camera as simple as a iPhone because they have amazing quality on these devices. However, they do have many limitations. Also, build a storyboard so you have an idea how everything may turn out. Ensure that the tone of the filmmaking is also consistent, such as, clothing and color of the entire film. Casting is also very important, have actors that can meet your story demands. Also remember the safety of your actors. Sound is also very essential, to effectively engage and lure in your audience for the film. Don’t write something that has very heavy dialogue if you don’t have the best sound equipment in the world. Have minimal and or no dialogue at all. Have beverages and snacks around for your actors to keep morale up. When it come to post-production, gain perspective from others and focus cutting unnecessary content. Sometimes stepping away from your project for a while clears your head as well. Use music that is custom if you can’t make your own (avoid copyright). Focus on elements you can achieve, not what you can’t. Do not write visuals effects you know you can not pull off. Time is the most valuable resource (5 minutes for my short film).
